Music: Dois Palhacos by Poin Pequena Orquestra Interativa
Points to Ponder: “Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things” – Robert Brault
Story Line: The most beautiful things in life are the people and places and memories and pictures. They are feelings and moments and smiles and laughter. (Courtesy: from a poster sent by Helen Tan from Philippines).
During last 30 days, many friends around the world shared images of different events in their lives. These included nature, travel, innocence of children, appealing food dishes, beautiful photography, woodwork, art, exotic flowers, rich fruits and vegetable harvest, sharing between neighbors, 50th anniversary of penfriendship and nice refreshing drinks as the days wind down.
These are the friends I met in my workplaces, during our travel adventures, social gatherings, one through accident (literally speaking) and ones who were with me from KG to high school graduation. Also people who have known me since birth and ones I have known since their birth continue to share the events from their journeys.
They come from many cultures and countries. The video above is compilation of the images of their journey in order they were received.
Reflection: I often remember the words of Barbara Bush from her Commencement Address to the Wellesley College Class of 1990. They have appeared in few reflections over the years. Looking at the current times, I would like to reflect on a few lines from those profound words, Yes Once Again.
“The third choice that must not be missed is to cherish your human connections: your relationships with family and friends. For several years, you've had impressed upon you the importance to your career of dedication and hard work, and, of course, that's true. But as important as your obligations as a doctor, lawyer or business leader will be, you are a human being first and those human connections --- with spouses, with children, with friends -- are the most important investments you will ever make.
At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a child, a friend or a parent.”

Such a profound truth which most people overlook.

Anand,
While it is true, " The most beautiful things in life are the people and places and memories and pictures. They are feelings and moments and smiles and laughter.” Reliving these events make us feel good and we tend to overlook some of the more unmemorable places and memories, but I would submit it is some of these instances, when they occurred, did much to improve our character and our ability to cope. There is evil in the world, it is constantly working for fulfill its objective and we must not let our guard down for an instant for it will roll all over us.
I had a situation where we refused to ship to .........because they had not paid their bills. It was not a huge amount, still their refusal to pay (because of who they were) irritated me. Since we did not ship (we’re talking about a gallon of material), they could no QC machines (thoise multi-million dollar pieces for for ...... and others) and so they could no ship. Their VP ripped one of my salespeople on the phone for not shipping and then had the pleasure of speaking with me one day. He asked me who we had spoken with at ........and when given the name of their procurement person, his response was, “They are nothing!” It went downhill quickly after that and verbally, I ripped out his throat for the treatment of my saleswoman and informed his ...... was not .......and until he paid he was not going to get any material. They paid and I never had the pleasure of speaking with him again.
I don’t think I have ever spoken that harshly with anyone on the phone and afterwards, I felt great as I had met the devil, defended my people and we got paid. And hopefully that VP, who probably made 6X what I did, came away with a lesson that he should be a little bit more aware before he starts trampling people (his and mine) on the phone. Most days, I was paid to go down that road, take his kind of crap and just smile, but this was not one of those days. And to quote Robert Frost, “I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.
