Point to Ponder: To all our brothers and sisters in countries who are affected by Coronavirus - Oh, send them your heart so they know someone cares.
Story Line: Recent Coronavirus has brought out the best and in some cases the worst of human nature. The demonstration of human kindness, care and extending loving hand are shown by some countries and people. Also tremendous resolve and determination demonstrated by Chinese people once crisis was recognized is admirable. Building a 1600 rooms fully equipped and staffed hospital in two weeks and being able to quarantine 11million people in a very short time are impressive accomplishments.
On the worst side, some media and people have seized on this unfortunate situation to slender an entire race, culture and country. Such negative propaganda has resulted in increased discrimination and prejudices which we have witnessed during our recent travel too. Some have even used this incident to glorify their own culture and country by belittling habits of a few in the affected country
This sad situation brings back the memories of an incident I witnessed in my early career. A group manager was delighted to share with his team during lunch in cafeteria that his peer in the staff was chewed out badly and humiliated by their boss in their staff meeting. An elderly employee who was sitting in the chair nearby intervened and putting his hand on the shoulder of the manager said “it is not good to laugh on the misery of others”
As he was leaving he murmured “ For the same way you judge others you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Reflection:
There comes a time
When we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
And Oh it’s time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all...
