(Yes there are Seven.)
The writer and philosopher Laurens van der Post, in his memoir of his friendship with Carl Jung, said, "We live not only our own lives but, whether we know it or not, also the life of our time." We are actors in a moment of history, taking part in it, moving it this way or that as we move forward or back. The moment we are living now is a strange one, a disquieting one, a time that seems full of endings. Too bad there's no pill for that.
Story Line: Last weekend there was an article in WSJ by Peggy Noonan that presents good observations and excellent analysis of Post 9/11 US and current economic crisis/depression. The article concludes with the words: There is No Pill for This Kind of Depression.
I am not the one to dispute a great author neither I am a licensed Physician to prescribe any medical pills for depression. But having lived through eight economic downturns in my 33 years career, I have collected Seven Pills that have been very useful in any time: Good Times or Bad Times, Richness and Poverty ... Just sharing in case it helps someone: absolutely FREE at NO COST TO YOU.
Working Wisdom You Can Use: One Pill a Day or once Every Friday.
Many people who achieve great things in their careers share a similar set of values and disciplines, which have worked in harmony to help them achieve their dreams.
- Keep on learning new skills: They will never abandon you until your mind does.
- Assume Responsibility: If you see an opportunity/problem, you own it.
- People and Relationships: It is people who make things happen, not machines.
- Flexibility: If you want to be successful in this fast moving world, be ready to change the document before the ink is dry.
- Take Risks: That is the only way to realize your true potential.
- Passion: Do things with passion. It is contagious.
- Performance and Results: In the final analysis, it is the value that you bring to the society.
Always Remember: “Everything is OK in the end. If it is not OK then it is not the end.”
Reflection: I started on the above Pills 24 years ago and they have served us (me and some good friends) well. We hope that these Pills aka Friday Reflections will help you take a few minutes out of a busy week to reflect on these values, and on how you can achieve your own dreams. There are no intellectual property rights over these Pills and one is free to create his/her own pills as well.
In current environment where people are wondering who can they trust anymore, there is one simple answer: Learning to trust yourself is the greatest Trust of all.

Anand, Thanks for your free pills.
As a normal individual, we might not have pills to recover the economy. However, we do have pills for ourselves. I am breaking down your seven pills to small pieces, and taking them to replace antidepressants, strengthen my capabilities, survive better in this depression, and wait for the next prosperity time.
