Sharpen your Axe

Toon30a

Especially in a fast-paced, busy environment, we must continually work to improve (sharpen) our skills, or else risk falling behind.  Have you sharpened your ax lately?

Hint: you can click on the cartoon to enlarge it.

Bonus: for anyone wishing to sharpen their business ax, we found a terrific site here: http://personalmba.com/recommended-business-books/ - and we'd love to hear of more examples in our comments.

Comments

This phrase may derive from the book 7-Habits of Highly Effective People (by S.Covey)?. That book is, in my opinion, one of the most important books of the 20th century." The 7th and final habit is called, "Sharpen the Saw". In my company, I feel that this is one of the activities that we are least encouraged to do (or perhaps we are expected to do it only on our own personal time). Facilitating individual development time during the work week is one of the things I hope we can improve at my organization in the near future.
